Are you using Vuo on Mac OS 10.6 or 10.7?

Recent versions of Mac OS X have introduced new graphics features. We’d like to be able to take advantage of these new features, but to do so, we’d have to discontinue support for 10.6 and 10.7. To make an informed decision about when to discontinue support for 10.6 and 10.7, we need to know how many of you would be affected, and if you are ready to migrate to 10.8 or 10.9 to run Vuo. So, if you are running Vuo on 10.6 or 10.7, can you please let us know what it would mean for you?

Running 10.9.

The future. Embrace it.

Running 10.8
Will upgrade to 10.9 when 10.9.1 comes out :-)

10.7.5 Been meaning to install 10.8/10.9 all year so no drama if BonixTV and other QC dependent software is ok on Mavericks will do so.

10.9.
I usually upgrade too fast and then whine.

I am running 10.7 and have no plans to upgrade at this time. To make an informed decision about when to upgrade, I would need to know what it would give me.

To me, using the latest features of the OS has two sides. On the one hand it is great to be able to make stuff that would not be as easily done as before. But on the other hand I am afraid it will take Vuo on a path that marries it more and more into specific OSX frameworks, and I would love to see it develop into something that could also deploy to iOS, linux (raspberry pi), and even webgl/asm.js.

Good point. Our plans currently include extending Vuo to edit compositions on Windows and Linux, and to deploy compositions to Windows, Linux, and iOS. We intend to continue using cross-platform technologies as much as possible, to facilitate porting to these other platforms.

Our interest in discontinuing support for older Mac OS X versions is this: Mac OS 10.7 adds support for OpenGL geometry shaders, and Mac OS 10.8 adds support for OpenGL ARB_separate_shader_objects. We’d like to use this (and other) new functionality in Vuo to improve graphics performance.

On Windows and Linux, hardware vendors have long provided support for this functionality, so if Vuo makes use of it, it won’t impede compatibility with these platforms — just with Mac OS 10.6 and 10.7.

I’m running 10.6.8.
I have other software installed on my computer and i don’t want to upgrade them right now.
If you can wait a few months it would be great.

10.9 here. All good.

I have two machines, and one is running 10.7. As it’s an older machine, it doesn’t support 10.8 or higher. I do, however, have a newer machine running 10.9, so this change to Vuo wouldn’t affect me in a major way.

If anyone uses a computer that only supports operating systems as high as 10.6 or 10.7, they will be the ones who are majorly affected. Anyone?

I run an air and mini both on 10.7, for development and deployment at event and have not upgraded because some Kineme plugins (particle tools) stop working after 10.7 i believe. Because I had current projects running I couldn’t upgrade. I would think about upgrading, but to loose particles in QC is a major problem for my compositions currently, so i am still hesitant.
I would be interested in 10.9 but I’m not sure if any of Kineme run on 10.9?
I plan on continuing to use QC+Kineme for a while and transition to Vuo if it can eventually do the same thing as QC+Kineme.

Richard,

We have have not heard of particle tools breaking in 10.8 or 10.9, although it only works in 32-bit mode. If you have difficulties, please let us know at kineme.net. We want to document “known issues” for all kineme plug-ins.

10.9 now, although having issues with Xcode not wanting to even boot let alone do work :-\

Edit & Delete functions for posters wouldn’t be too bad :-)

Running 10.9.1 Now. So let us know when you are going to drop support for 10.6 and 10.7.

One problem is that it hasn’t worked with kineme3D renderers because the render method called in particle tools is no longer correct, but that’s not really an OS version issue, as much as that particle tools hasn’t been maintained (and maybe rightfully so).

Running 10.8, some 10.9, many audio related apps still aren’t ready for 10.9…

We’ve decided that Vuo 1.0 will be the last version to support 10.6 and 10.7.
