Compositing in Vuo — Part 1

Compositing in Vuo can range from adding a simple filter to creating a large and complex composition that reacts to outside data and generates its own in response. To get into and understand the anatomy of a composition can be a daunting task though, so this tutorial will go through the basics to try and explain the core concepts and workflows to achieve interesting and hopefully good-looking results.

Improved Feedback Node

The Blend Image with Feedback Node is missing a few parameters, I'm proposing a second node!!!

An absolutely essential parameter for feedback in my opinion is hue shift.

Also a "framerate" is very useful. So that not every frame is filled up with feedback, which allows you to create graphs etc.

There are also a bunch of parameters on "Blend Image with Feedback" that aren't very useful and can comfortably be scrapped to save space. Transforming the foreground image is redundant, and can easily be done with another node, similarly: width, height, colour depth etc.

An improved feedback would be soooo useful in my opinion.

Simple Keystone Node

Hi I'd love it if there was a simple keystone node. The current "quad layer" node is clunky in my opinion. Firstly it changes the image to layer which strikes me as very odd.

Also there isn't any node to crop/mask shapes from the image (ie diagonal lines across the image).

So I'm proposing a simple node of the image class that can keystone the image... and while I'm here I'm proposing that it can be used to diagonally crop pieces of the image too.

Feel free to point it out if there is one already.

Camera tracking

For virtual studios, camera tracking is starting to become the go-to effect for tying in the AR. Looking at some different approaches I stumbled across this paper http://rpg.ifi.uzh.ch/docs/ICRA14_Forster.pdf which promises single camera tracking in realtime. As this is also a component of the ROS that I've seen mentioned for blob-tracking, could this be a possible implementation for Vuo?
