I was wondering if creating a "node group" that actually combined the selected nodes into a single node with maybe a small icon and textual annotation/description bar that indicated that it is a group and also identified what the group is would be even more helpful. In Quartz Composer I think they called a similar feature a "Macro" and saving them to the patch library was a "Virtual Macro". I know in VUO you can Save Composition to Node Gallery which is great and I've used this feature a few times, however unless it's a node grouping you plan on using repetitively in more than one composition I don't feel it's the best way to simplify or clean up your editor canvas and over time could also lead to a rather bloated Node Library as well.

I really like the way the 3D animation software Blender does this... see about the 32sec mark.

Blender Node Groups

I like it because you are able to view the embedded grouped nodes simply by selecting it and "Tabbing" in and out of the group, but you don't actually leave your main composition. I also think the input and output nodes Blender creates are a fair bit cleaner in appearance than the way we currently use publish input and output ports in VUO. At least I would prefer this method for grouping nodes, the current way VUO does Publish Ports makes sense for regular compositions when IO is being made available to other programs and for the Save Composition to Node Gallery feature.

Chris commented on Chris's Bug Report, “Text layers don't scale like other layers.

That would be great if you can fit it into 1.3! It's going to really help dictate how I approach this next project coming up.

Somehow I missed your response but am SO glad to hear it's coming in Vuo 1.2.6... if you need any alpha/beta testers I can do a little testing with my planned project. :)

My initial need will just be to have my project read a datamatrix code with a camera, extract a 4-digit code from the delineated text string and then use that 4-digit code to find the appropriate replacement text in an XML file for displaying on screen.

Turns out I ended up having to go a different route after all. The Select Latest node was working great for my test still images but as soon as I got into video sources it was no longer suitable for selecting my sources (since video is a steady stream of images it's always being chosen as the Latest source). However I ended up using the 8 input Select Latest to output the number of the source on my Select Input node and used combination of compare numbers, math node and a True/False node to split the output to the proper Select Input node. Seems to be working well now.

I was even able to make a "Take" button along with a "Dissolve" and "Cut" button to select what transition type I wanted between the current video source and the one coming in. Super smooth transitions and live video even at 3360x1080 resolution output!!! Amazing!

Receive Live Video node- Start/Stop not working properly

Vuo version:

Fixed in Vuo version:

OS version:

  • macOS 10.12

How severely does this bug affect you?:

●●●○ — It prevents me from completing a specific task with Vuo.

Steps causing the bug to occur:

  1. Connect Receive Live Video node to Render Image to Window node
  2. Connect Fire on Start node to Start port on Receive Live Video node.
  3. Run Composition and on the Receive Live Video mode Right Click on Stop port and Fire Event.
  4. Now try and start the video again with the Start port... it won't start. Or am I doing something wrong?

Have you found a workaround?:

Other notes:

I'm trying to disable this node for 2 video seperate input devices when the composition doesn't require them but I can't and once it's stopped it won't start again unless I close and restart the composition.
