This policy explains what data we collect and how we use it.

If you have any questions about our policy or your data, please contact us.

Vuo is created and managed by employees of Kosada, Inc, also known as Team Vuo.

We process your data to provide services to you. You have either paid for services (contracted with us), or consented for us to provide services to you, such as signing up for e-mail newsletter updates. We don’t sell, rent, share, or trade any of your information with any other company.

Types of data we collect and process

  • Web requests

    • When your web browser makes a request to our servers, our servers record the IP address and the name and version of the browser you were using at the time, which enables us to diagnose problems and monitor usage
    • We use a self-hosted Matomo instance to collect anonymized information on your visit. It helps us determine what pages visitors look at, how much time they spend on each page, and the sequence of pages they visit, to help us improve the website. We formerly used Google Analytics, but we disabled it in 2021 June.
  • Our contact form

    • We collect your email address and name along with your message. The data is used only for responding to your inquiry.
  • Your order

    • We collect your name, username, e-mail address, billing address, and payment information:
      • for payment processing — payment data is handled through Authorize.net or PayPal and is not held by Kosada
      • to fulfill your order
      • to contact you if we need to obtain or provide additional information regarding your order
  • Email newsletter

    • As part of the opt-in registration process for our newsletter, we collect your email address, which we use to:
      • tell you about new Vuo releases, activity in the Vuo Community, and other information related to Vuo
      • occasionally ask for your voluntary feedback on how we can improve Vuo and our communications about it
    • Each email includes an “unsubscribe” link which you can use if you no longer want to hear from us
  • Your public profile and user account

    • When you make a purchase, we’ll create a user account on vuo.org. If you haven’t bought Vuo, you also have the option to create a user account.
    • Usernames and profile pages are publicly visible.
    • With a user account, you can contribute to the Vuo community by participating in discussions, sharing Vuo compositions and nodes, requesting or voting on future Vuo features, and informing Team Vuo of possible bugs.
    • Your profile page contains several fields where you have the option to share information about yourself with the Vuo community and the general public.
      • If you provide Flattr or PayPal information, we will provide the opportunity for others to make payments to your designated accounts. Transactions are made through those sites between the supporter and yourself. Team Vuo does not collect any fee, and does not store any information about those transactions.
    • We use your profile information to:
      • send you notifications about new comments from Team Vuo or other users on the vuo.org discussions you’ve participated in or subscribed to — you can unsubscribe from these notifications at any time by changing settings on your user account’s “Following” tab
      • make a tailored website available to you, including showing you:
        • your order history
        • your current Vuo licenses
        • feature requests you voted on, and votes available to you
        • people and topics you are following
        • 3rd-party accounts you have linked to your account
        • your newsletter subscription status
      • respond to requests you send privately to Team Vuo
    • We do not perform targeted advertising.
  • The Vuo editor app

    • When you activate Vuo, it sends your computer’s serial number to our servers, which enables us to generate a unique encrypted license key for you. We also use this information internally to determine priority for supporting certain hardware models.
    • When you click Help > Contact Team Vuo or other web links inside Vuo, it opens the Vuo website in your system’s web browser, into which you can optionally enter your contact information, which enables us to follow up with you.
  • Cookies

    • Cookies are unique identifiers that help vuo.org identify you. A small cookie is stored in your web browser and allows us to recognize you and make your next visit easier.
    • We use cookies to:
      • identify you when you are logged in
      • identify visitors when they are not logged in — for example, to keep track of items in each visitor’s shopping cart
    • You can change your cookie behavior in your browser settings.

Data retention

We will not retain your data for longer than necessary to provide the services we have mentioned above. Different retention periods apply for different types of data — for example, we need to retain billing records in the long term in order to comply with financial and audit regulations.

Data access and correction

You are entitled to view, amend, or delete the personal information that we hold. However:

  • Since we need your order information for our financial records, we may not be able to completely delete your order history. If you withdraw consent for order processing or request that we delete your order information, we may not be able to provide subsequent help with that order.
  • Information you have published on our website may have been commented on or voted on by others. As such, we may have to keep some content on the website, while removing your identification with such content.
  • When you request that we delete your data, we will remove it from the live website. Since we retain multiple historic backups of the website, your data may remain in our historic backups after it is removed from the live website. We will ensure that data you’ve requested to be deleted will not be restored to the live website.

Please submit your requests using our contact form.

If you’re located in the European Union, you also have the right to lodge a complaint with the data protection supervisory authority in the Member State of your habitual residence.
